Steven Katleman
Founder
Steven Katleman has practiced entertainment and media law for more than three decades in a variety of settings — from a major talent agency (where he decided that being an agent was a great job for other people), to a small law firm as a business litigator (where he learned how to fight and not be intimidated, even when being yelled at by a federal judge), to a mid-sized entertainment law firm (where he learned how to bring the other side to heel, while keeping it classy), to a full-service international law firm, which added even more tools and helped broaden and diversify his practice.
Over the years, Steve has developed a broad range of practical experience across television, film, digital media, branding, sports, live events and related industries. He believes that clients hire lawyers to help accomplish objectives, solve problems and get deals done — not to create unnecessary complexity or obstacles, or get lost in legal theory. His practice is grounded in practical business judgment, strategic thinking and a collaborative approach shaped by many years of working closely with clients across rapidly evolving entertainment and media businesses.
One of the things Steve has always found most gratifying is the opportunity to work with talented, driven and creative people who are genuinely committed to what they do — whether established industry leaders or emerging companies, producers, talent or entrepreneurs building something new. He particularly enjoys helping clients navigate challenges, capitalize on opportunities and to become part of their long-term success and growth.
A Los Angeles native, Steve continues his LA-based national and international practice through Katleman Media Law as a boutique platform. Outside of work, Steve enjoys music, following NFL football and hanging out with his kids, while attempting to avoid additional blunt-force trauma from various athletic endeavors. He is also currently engaged in an ongoing negotiation with his wife to let him get another dog. Updates to follow in this space.
